BH-14 (mixed crosses) × Redheart] × Calif. 222 [Calif. 66.2 (USDA 634 × Banner) × Calif. 7.20 (Blakemore × Nich Ohmer)]; cross made in 1936; selected in 1938; tested as Calif. 579.4. <b>Fruit:</b> medium large to large, maintaining size during the season; long conic, moderately irregular; skin medium red, attractive, glossy; achenes yellow, small, flush with surface; flesh red, soft to medium firm, flavor excellent, subacid; dessert quality very good; shipping quality fair; hull size medium, varies from clasping to reflexed; ripens early; flower stem never long. <b>Plant:</b> bears a good spring crop, fall production light; highly susceptible to verticillium wilt; vigorous; good runner production. Grown in Japan; apparently no longer grown in California. Named for a celebrated lake in California.
