Orig. in Rehovot, Israel, by Chanan Oppenheimer, Agr. Res. Sta., Div. Subtrop. Hort., National and Univ. Inst. of Agr. Introd. there in 1953; in the U.S. about 1956. F2 (Calville St. Sauveur × unnamed local seedling); cross made in 1939; selected in 1947. <b>Fruit:</b> small, averaging about 100 g; conic; skin splashed with red; flesh sprightly; ripens early, end of May; soft and does not transport well; for local market. <b>Tree:</b> chilling requirement very slight, suitable for subtropical conditions; must be grown on strong rootstock; self-fruitful; sets practically every flower and must be heavily thinned to obtain commercial size.
